SYNOPSIS
Nii Mensah Ankrah managed to escape a formidable coup de’tat in Ghana, where he was born, and ended up at UCLA in the
United States. He vowed to return to his country after graduation and work for change. Meanwhile, he became acquainted with the fellows
at the Ghana House, a colorful hangout for the Ghanaian community. There were two distinct groups within the Ghanaian community, the
materialists and the progressives. Nii Mensah met three African graduate students at UCLA who became his mentors. They earnestly encouraged
him to focus on his studies. After dating several beautiful girls, he met the gorgeous Barbara and decided to marry her. When Barbara
turned out to be the wife from hell, he took a downward spiral that led all the way to skid row. It took all of his inner strength,
sense of determination and the loyalty of his mentors to return to earn a masters degree at UCLA, a job at Compton Community College,
a good marriage and the fulfillment of his vow to return to Ghana to make a difference.
BIOGRAPHY
Stan Allotey is an Internationally prominent track star from Ghana. Stan won two gold medals at the British Commonwealth
Games in Kingston, Jamaica in 1966. He also participated in the 1964 and 1968 Olympic Games. In 1987, he was inducted into the California
State University Athletic Hall of Fame. Furthermore, the Ghana Review International Magazine recently tagged Stan Allotey in an article
entitled “40 years of Ghana Sports”. The editors described Stan as “Ghana’s Best Athlete of All Time” From his humble beginning in
Ghana and upon graduation from Prempeh College, he was awarded a track scholarship to attend California State University at Los Angeles.
Through hard work and persistence, he completed a B.A. in Journalism and M.S. in Public Administration. Subsequently, he became the
Transfer and Articulation Specialist at Compton Community College for 21 years. He was deeply involved in the politics of Compton,
